Measuring for Shawnee Steps

Available within Northern New England only

Shawnee Pre-cast Concrete Step Measurement Chart

When measuring for Shawnee steps, we recommend the following procedure:

Rest the end of a straight 8' - 2" X 4" beam on the door sill and bring it to a level position.

Measure from the face of the house out at even step intervals (refer to total projection table) and measure the drop to the ground or finish grade. Remember, you should be more interested in where the bottom step will be, rather than just under the doorsill.

When measuring for width, be sure choose a width that is wide enough. Most three foot doorways can easily take a width of 5 or 6 feet. Remember, railings come in from sides about 4 inches. With shutters or side lights steps can be 7 feet wide, or wider.

Measurement Table For Shawnee Steps
No. Risers Step Height Total Drop Platform Depths - Projections Below
14" 30" 42½"
1. 7½" 8" to 15" 14" 30" 42½"
2. 15" 16" to 23" 24¼" 40¼" 52¾"
3. 22½" 23" to 30" 34½" 50½" 63"
4. 30" 30" to 38" 44¾" 60¾" 73¼"
5. 37½" 38" to 45" 55" 71" 83½"
6. 45" 45" to 53" 65¼" 81¼" 93¾"
7. 52½" 53" to 60" 75½" 91½" 104"
8. 60" 60" to 68" 85¾" 101¾" 114¼"
9. 67½" 68" to 75" 96" 112" 124½"
10. 75" 75" to 83" 106¼" 122¼" 134¾"
Example: If you measure out approx. 60" from the house and then measure a 28" drop to grade, you would then take the next lower number on the height table which would be 22½" or a three riser step. Your step into the house would be 5½" which is the difference between total drop and height of step unit used.

When measuring horizontally,
measure out from where step will rest against house,
not necessarily from foundation.
